All manner of copies, alterations and impositions are excluded from my sales.
There are no duplicates in any lot unless so men- tioned specially or stated to be unassorted.
*** Copies of this Catalogue, giving prices realized, neatly executed in red ink, FIFTY CENTS. CASH WITH ORDER.
TO BID UHDEBSTIINDINGLY, THIS MUST BE READ CAREFULLY..
Coins and medals are sold at so much per piece, U. S. proof sets excepted. You cannot bid for one piece in a lot. If a lot contains ten pieces, and you desire to offer $2 for it, make your bid 2oc. The auctioneer will accept an advance of i cent up to 50c., then 5c. up to $2.50, when loc. is the limit, up to $10, and thereafter not less than 25c. Hence any bid up to 50c. can be entertained, but after that the bid must be 55c., 60c., and so on. Such offers 53C-, $1.01, and all intermediate figures are unavailable.
M| Terms for bufiog are 10%, and I make no charge less than Ik
Auction Sales are strictly for cash. Parties unknown to me must send a deposit covering at least 25% of their bids, otherwise they will not be accepted. Collectors are reminded that it is greatly to their advantage to forward bids as many days as possible in advance of the sale.
By reason of the increased frequency of errors on the part of patrons of my sales, I feel the necessity of calling the attention of those sending bids, to the special instructions as above. Revise your lot numbers carefully, and the price as well, to be sure you are making the offer you desire and against the par- ticular lof wanted. Do not make a lump sum offer for a lot, — they are always sold entire, — but the bid must be by the piece, excepting in the case of U. S. Proof Sets. There are no other exceptions unless definitely so stated in the catalogue.
Make no corrections or alterations of figures, draw your pen through all errors and make a new entry. Do not use a lead pencil ; such marks become indistinct by handling. Avoid making small figures.
It is respectfully requested that remittances be made by Exchange on New York, the collection charges on small checks being quite an item, where there are so many of them. Patrons will be credited with the net amount received for their checks.
A money order is an acceptable method of transmitting small amounts.

U. S. AND FOREIGN GOLD COINS.
Dollars. 1854 Answers same description as last. Oct. Very good ; lightly scratched.

— 1855 Phila. mint. About unc. An exceptional example.
— 1855 Dahlonega mint. Only the outline of 8 in date is visible, the other figures and mint letter are full and strong, otherwise very good, approaching fine.
This peculiarity of imperfection is not uncommon in issues from the Mints of Charlotte and Dahlonega. While the dies were cut at Philadelphia, the Branch Mints rolled and cut the blanks to strike their coins, and the machinery being less perfected than at the chief mint, the impressions varied and in few if any instances, equal those of the Philadelphia Mint. Whether good, bad, or in- different, I find but a single record since 1886, and I challenge the announce- ment of a duplicate.
